How many times have you felt defeated before you start? Not up to the task? Lacking the skills ? Or just simply full of doubt?
A huge number of our dreams and goals tend to be suppressed and destroyed by self doubt, yet with a simple, extra word being added to many of our 'monkeys on the shoulder' we develop hope, a chance of success, a chance to achieve.
Take training for a marathon - "I have not run more than 14 miles" on the morning of the big day will simply create doubt, worry, concern. However "I haven't run more than 14 miles yet" tells us something completely different - there is hope, a chance, a way to move forward.
Rephrasing also helps, the key however is to stop for that split second, find a way of being optimistic with the word 'yet' and feel altogether different about the future...
Whether it is a battle with infertility, a project that isn’t going the way we expected, or a relationship that’s constantly devolving, the simple word “yet” can transform the negative thoughts in our mind into something that feels less final. And that opens up the space to breathe. To live. To look for alternatives. To look for solutions. Or simply to get through another day.
